History

Founded in 1999 as TransNational North American Bankcard, Inc. by John Pitzaferro, the company changed its name to TransNational Payments, Inc. to better reflect the services offered. The idea to create the company came to Pitzaferro after spending 16 years working in merchant services and witnessing the lack of transparency in the industry, that in many ways still exists today. Desiring to bridge the gap between payment processors and their customers, he focused on creating an organization that would advocate for merchants by using full-disclosure communication, encourage its employees through a healthy workplace culture and give back to local communities by participating in numerous charitable causes.

In 2009, Pitzaferro founded My Well Ministry, a service that provides payment processing support to churches, nonprofits and philanthropies at cost, helping those organizations save money and use it to advance their cause. The following year, he launched another initiative, called Party with a Purpose, an annual fundraiser co-sponsored by TransNational Payments and the ORPHANetwork to benefit vulnerable children in Nicaragua. Since its inaugural year in 2011, the event draws hundreds of attendees every October and has delivered nearly $1.2 million in donations designated to provide 1,200 children in the community of Nueva Vida, Nicaragua with food, medical care and education.

In 2014, the company partnered with Vision96 -- an IT consulting service company that helps organizations improve their strategy, performance and profits. It operates in the field of telecommunications, unified communications, data & wide area network services, cloud & DCS and internet services.

My Well Ministry

In 2005, after learning how much Willow Creek Community Church, his home church, was being charged for credit card processing, John Pitzaferro offered to process for them below his costs. As a result, the total savings for the church amounted to $70,000 annually, allowing Willow Creek to instead use it for their ministry. In 2008, while at a church service, Pitzaferro heard Bill Hybels, Willow Creek's senior and founding pastor, tell the story of a man whose business was drilling wells. In the winter months, when drilling ceased in the Midwest area of the U.S., this man took his business to Africa and drilled wells for free. Upon hearing the story, John Pitzaferro decided that payment processing was his "well," and he could bring value by leveraging TransNational Payments' services. Created in 2009, My Well Ministry now serves hundreds of churches and 501c3's across the U.S. by providing online and in-person credit card processing and equipment, customer support, website integration assistance and business expertise. To date, the service has resulted in over $13.5 million in savings.

Service

My Well Ministry provides online and in-person credit card processing and equipment that integrates with most software. After qualifying for enrollment, a non-profit, church or a philanthropic organization is presented with an illustration of expected savings. Upon mutual agreement, TransNational Payments becomes the merchant services provider for the entity, accepting full responsibility for providing services, equipment and solutions at cost. In addition, My Well Ministry offers customer support, website integration assistance and business expertise.

Party with a Purpose

After returning from an ORPHANetwork trip to Nicaragua in 2010, where he witnessed widespread poverty and lack of access to basic needs, especially among children, Pitzaferro wanted to create a meaningful impact. Coupled with annual visits to Nicaragua by him, his family and select members of TransNational Payments, Pitzaferro decided to organize an event that would not be a typical fundraiser but at the same time drive real change.

Impact

The event occurs annually at various venues in the Chicago area. It features many elements of a typical party, as well as a raffle and both silent and live auctions, proceeds from which contribute to the total amount raised. The idea behind the setup of Party with a Purpose is to involve donors not only through donations, but also by helping them feel more connected to the cause through active participation in the event. 100% of the proceeds from Party with a Purpose go towards supporting the ORPHANetwork's ongoing efforts in Nueva Vida. The financial support has positively transformed the community in many ways, including:

  • Malnourishment in the community reduced by 50%
  • Over 2 million meals delivered to those in need
  • All 1,200 children in the community have regular health and dental care
  • Mothers taught about child care and development
  • Education and valuable job skills made accessible to children
  • Relationships developed between families and their local church
